What’s What New Port Richey

If you’re looking for just the right thing to give someone special or something to feed whimsey, the PinkBrick Boutique in downtown New Port Richey is a sure bet.
Located on the second floor at the top of a grand staircase at 6234 Grand Blvd, (Ste 212), the boutique with a very feminine touch offers a meandering shopping experience through a handful of well-appointed rooms where a panoply of eclectic, cute, adorable, playful, and quirky giftable and wearable options that evolve by the week await.
Every visit promises a pleasant surprise as displays and stock are updated weekly. It’s hard not to leave with a treasure or two wrapped in tissue paper and the store’s signature paper bags.
The nature of the Pink Brick Boutique has an intentional European feel, with inventory – much of it from overseas – selected and tastefully appointed by the shop’s owners, Lisa Layton and Sallie Solie.

Most of their stock is purchased at the Atlanta Market, a 20-story high trade show held twice yearly for members of the home furnishings, gift, apparel, and design trades, which is not open to the general public.
“We scout the newest and coolest things we can find, then figure out how we’re going to curate them into the store,” said Lisa, on a recent Saturday morning stint, noting the new book displays in the mix along with a couple of upscale lines of jewelry and handbags that have been getting some attention.

The boutique has seen steady success since it opened, Lisa said, noting that many customers are less inclined to shop online these days.
“We’re bringing back the art of gift shopping,” she said.
Doing that in a brick-and-mortar store wasn’t the initial plan. In the beginning, Lisa and Sallie planned to open an online business featuring a line of skin care products. They came up with the name Pink Brick Boutique in August of 2021, intending to build their store website.
A “For Rent ” sign Sallie happened upon on the historic Pasco Building in downtown New Port Richey changed everything. After climbing the stairs, she found the door to the open space unlocked and, upon wandering in, one of the first things she saw was a brick wall.

As Sallie tells it in the “Our Story” feature on the store website, she felt goosebumps and burst into tears.
“I knew I had found our fairytale space in an elegant building in a charming downtown area,” she said.
Then she called Lisa to tell her, “We’re opening a store.”

The Pink Brick Boutique opened in August 2022, a side hustle of sorts with an eventual endgame to take them through and offer some adventure in their retirement years. They hired staff to cover weekdays, and continued to work their full-time jobs – Sallie as a soon-to-be-retired Registered Nurse, and Lisa as the owner of American Car Craft, a manufacturer of accessories for show cars, located in Spring Hill.
They both put hours into the store, but it’s not easy to find them there at the same time. Even so, they’re always on the same page, whether it’s designing a new door to greet customers, looking into more space to house a coffee tasting room, or opening a sister Pink Boutique storefront in another walkable Florida city.
The new store will be at 421 W. Fairbanks Avenue in Winter Park, a charming city in Central Florida that is known for its downtown shopping and dining area, local lakes, and is also the site of Rollins College.
“We’ve done our homework on the location,” Lisa said, noting the foot traffic and car traffic stats she’s studied that bode well for retail shops.
Lisa’s daughter lives in Orange County, so she’ll be able to help out with the store. Sallie’s time will be freed up with her upcoming retirement from nursing. Lisa and Sallie have also rented an apartment, so they can switch off in splitting their time between Winter Park and New Port Richey.
“With the economy, it might not seem like the best time to be doing this. Everything is scary,” Lisa said. “But we’re really excited about it. I can’t believe we’re doing this at this time of our lives. It’s going to be great”
After all, opening a boutique where your customers would have to climb a grand staircase to the second floor was also a leap of faith – one that has certainly panned out.
