New Port Richey, September 2, 2026 — The New Port Richey Public Library is bringing fairy tales to life with the Storybook Spectacular, a free family event celebrating early literacy, imagination, and the joy of reading. The event will take place on Sunday, September 13th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Railroad Square, located at 5761 Nebraska Ave, New Port Richey. It is part of the Library Card Sign-Up Month programming, taking place throughout the month of September.

Designed to encourage young children and their families to explore the magic of stories, the Storybook Spectacular will feature free crafts and activities inspired by beloved fairy tales.

Families can create their own wands and crowns, take photos with Willy Wonka and other performers from Richey Suncoast Theatre, meet princesses, and enjoy a variety of additional themed activities. Children (and adults) are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite storybook characters.

At the September 1 City Council meeting, Councilman Brian Jonas said he looked forward to the event, saying it “will be a great addition to Railroad Square!”

The event highlights many resources available to support early literacy in the community. Families can visit the Library’s mobile branch, ELROY, to sign up for a library card, explore children’s books and resources, and learn more about the Library’s vast offerings. Local children’s book authors and community organizations, including the Early Learning Coalition, Friends of the Library, and Brainstorms, will also be on hand to connect families with additional resources.

The afternoon will culminate at 1 p.m. with a special performance by Emmy Award-winning Page Turner Adventures. Known for their high-energy, interactive family entertainment, Page Turner Adventures will present The Mixed-Up Fairy Tale, putting a playful spin on familiar characters and classic stories.

“The Storybook Spectacular combines fairy tales, creative activities, and opportunities to connect with literacy resources, and we hope to inspire children to see reading as an adventure,” said Andi Figart, Library Director.
