“Fighting hunger one weekend at a time” is the motto and the battle cry for One Community Now’s Pack a Sack Program, which helps to provide nutritious meals for children while working with local schools and community partners. Their goal is to tend to the children who depend on school meals and would otherwise go hungry over the weekend days and during school breaks.
According to the website, Children served by the program are discreetly given a backpack filled with child-friendly, balanced meals and snacks to sustain them until they return to school. This ensures children can focus on being kids — not worrying about where their next meal will come from.
Much of the fundraising for this program comes from the annual Pack a Sack Family Festival, held on October 24 in Sims Park in downtown New Port Richey. Pack The Park for Pack A Sack is a fundraising event to fight childhood hunger in Pasco County. With over 1,600 children benefiting from weekend meals, your support helps provide food through the Pack A Sack 4 Kids program. Enjoy a family-friendly festival while making a difference!
