What’s What New Port Richey
It was a given during my pretty long stint covering education for the local paper that, come first day of school, one parent or another would call into the newsroom to frantically inquire about all the kids congregating at the neighborhood bus stop.
To be fair, typically they were transplants, often having relocated over the summer from somewhere in the north, where Labor Day often preceded the first day of school. Turns out that many of those northern states are now pushing up their start dates as well, so kicking off the new school year in August is not so much of a surprise. Even so, best not to be caught off guard about Meet the Teacher Days, when kids and parents can acquire an abundance of info about things such as school supplies, bus stops and drop-off and pick-up times (August 7 for secondary students and August 10 for elementary students). School holidays (Labor Day is the first!), and breaks are something you’ll want to know about – especially if you have to arrange child care or you want to plan a family vacation. There’s info on Report Card and Progress Reports. Grading Quarters and those all-important Test Assessment Dates.
So take a gander, bookmark this page, or take a screenshot and keep yourself in the loop. And you can access the school calendar on the Pasco County Schools website here.
