The New Port Richey Public Library is preparing to bring library services directly to the community with the addition of a mobile branch.

Once launched, this mobile library will travel throughout the city, expanding access to books and services for residents of all ages. To celebrate its upcoming arrival, the library is inviting the public to take part in a Bookmobile Naming Survey. Community members can submit name ideas and creative suggestions for the bookmobile’s look and features. The winning name will be revealed to the public before the bookmobile begins its first route.

The survey will run from June 5 through June 30. Participants can suggest a name, share ideas for design themes and features, and offer route or destination suggestions.

As a thank you, all survey participants will be entered for a chance to win $100 in gift cards to businesses in Downtown New Port Richey. The survey can be accessed at speakupnpr.org/bookmobile.

“It’s important that our bookmobile reflects the community it will serve,” said Matthew Ortman,
the Library’s Marketing and Community Outreach Coordinator. “We want it to feel familiar and
welcoming, and we believe the best way to achieve that is by involving our residents in the
process from the very beginning.”

The Library also received a Florida Humanities Summer Reading Grant to support the bookmobile’s children’s collection by adding early literacy board books, picture books, biographies, and nonfiction titles designed to foster creativity and support early learning. These funds, provided by Florida Humanities with support from the National Endowment for the Humanities, are part of a statewide initiative to strengthen summer reading efforts and improve access to books for young readers and their families.

A portion of the bookmobile’s collection will be drawn from the 2025 Collaborative Summer Library Program’s recommended reading list, including early literacy board books, picture books, biographies, and nonfiction titles inspired by the creative arts. These materials are designed to foster creativity and support early learning.

Special thanks go to the Friends of the New Port Richey Public Library and Congressman Gus
Bilirakis for their support in securing this grant funding. To learn more about the Library, the bookmobile, and the naming contest, visit www.nprlibrary.org.
