New Port Richey, Florida – The City of New Port Richey is proud to announce that the Florida League of Cities (FLC), the united voice for Florida’s municipal governments, recently recognized City Clerk Judy Meyers with a 2025 Home Rule Hero Award.
City Clerk Meyers earned this prestigious award for her tireless effort throughout the 2025 Florida Legislative Session to promote local voices making local choices by sharing insights, local data, and real-world examples that helped inform state lawmakers and elevate the voice of Florida’s cities.
Home Rule is the ability for a city to address local problems with local solutions with minimal state interference. Home Rule Hero Award recipients are local government officials, both elected and nonelected, who consistently responded to the League’s request to reach out to members of the Legislature and help give a local perspective on an issue.
“This session, local leaders stepped up once again, bringing persistence, perspective, and a strong voice for local decision-making to every conversation,” said FLC Chief of Legislative Affairs Casey Cook. “The League and our legislative team deeply appreciate their leadership and are proud to recognize the meaningful difference they made for Florida’s cities.”
City Clerk Meyers stated, “I am honored to be recognized once again for advocating on behalf of our residents, the importance of Home Rule. I have always believed that local lawmakers should be the ones to make the important decisions that directly impact the lives of our residents.”
This is the fourth time that City Clerk Meyers has received this award. City Clerk Meyers received her award at the Suncoast League of Cities Legislative Awards Dinner on Friday, May 16, 2025, in Clearwater.
