As the midterm election cycle approaches – with the Primary Election on August 18th and the General Election on November 3rd – Pasco County voters will soon head to the polls to make their voices heard. I urge every voter to remain vigilant regarding the potential, if not a given, for misinformation and disinformation that will inevitably circulate on social media well before and well after Election Day.

It’s been said that “The internet brought us together, but social media is tearing us apart.”  With that in mind, be very careful about what you read online, and when in doubt, investigate multiple sources to confirm the authenticity of the post.

Pasco County voters should take comfort in knowing that my office remains the trusted source for all matters regarding voting and elections. When in doubt, please reach out to us for unbiased, factual information. I wholeheartedly concur with the sentiment that Florida is the “gold standard” for elections administration.

As we approach these midterm elections, I implore you to be mindful of political posts on social media and when in doubt, investigate them or reach out to my office. As a voter, if any content or claims about candidates or issues appear suspicious, take a step back and examine the claim it makes and the sources cited.  At best, those nefarious posts are misleading; at worst, they are outright falsehoods. It was recently reported that many of these posts originate from foreign adversaries and are often shared, sometimes to sow discord and to erode confidence in the American electorate.

Again, if you have questions, reach out to my office. I pledge to maintain a professional, unbiased approach, “calling balls and strikes” on claims and whether they are accurate, unfounded, or debunked.

My team and I stand ready to assist you!
