Education | PHSC Earns Recognition at the FBLA National Leadership Conference

Students from Pasco-Hernando State College’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) won top prizes at the National Leadership Conference. The event, held in Dallas, Texas, from May 31 to June 2, attracted more than 1,000 college students, educators, and volunteers from across the country. The National Leadership Conference provides education, competition, and networking opportunities centered on business.

More than 890 students from nearly 150 schools in 27 U.S. states and territories competed in 38 business-related events for cash prizes totaling over $45,000. PHSC’s FBLA chapter earned the following awards and placements:

Distinguished Chapter – Ranked 3rd in the Nation and Top-ranked Distinguished Chapter among State/Community Colleges in the Nation.

Future Business Leaders of America Gold Seal Chapter

Curtis Scaglione – Outstanding Local Adviser

Krista Knowles – Third Place – Business Communications

Kevin Backitis – Fifth Place – Computer Applications

Emmalise Feliciano – Seventh Place – Future Business Leaders Executive

Matthew Gerlack – Eighth Place – Computer Applications

Emmalise Feliciano, Kiara Carlos, and Caleb Grossenbacher – Ninth Place – State of the Chapter

Samantha Mutter (University of South Florida, PHSC alumna) – Ninth Place – Emerging Business Issues

“I always knew you were all destined to become great leaders. I never could have imagined it would happen so soon. I see it from you all every day,” said PHSC’s FBLA co-advisor and assistant professor of information and technology programs, Curtis Scaglione.

“You put in the work and look where you are! I think I can speak for all of PHSC to say how proud we are of all of you. You have represented us well,” said PHSC FBLA co-advisor and associate professor of communication, Ron McCullough.

“This year’s National Leadership Conference showcased the incredible talent and dedication of our student members,” said FBLA president & CEO, Jennifer Woods, “from analytical thinking to dynamic communication, they demonstrated the skills that will shape tomorrow’s workforce. These college students leave Dallas not only with well-earned recognition, but also with new connections, confidence, and a clearer path toward their future careers.”
