Diana Shanks, director of communications for Pasco Pride, was the opening speaker at the 2022 Pasco Pride Festival held on Feb. 5 in Land O’Lakes. “Some PRIDES focus on the festival and the parties and that is important because we have to have shared spaces where we can celebrate together,” she said, adding that Pasco Pride is especially grounded in community advocacy and was a vocal presence at the county school board meetings concerning transgender bathroom policies. “We know that especially in Pasco County we have to advocate for ourselves.” PHOTO | MICHELE MILLER
