Pasco Hernando State College has awarded student and recent graduate Athena Colvin as the winner of the Presidential Holiday Card Contest, hosted by PHSC President Jesse Pisors, Ed.D. This contest involved a prize of $500 and the winning artwork featured on the 2024 official PHSC holiday card.
Out of over 40 submissions across all campuses, Graphic Design and Multimedia Tech Program student Athena Colvin was selected as the 2024 winner.
“Athena did wonderfully to encapsulate the PHSC brand,” said Pisors.
Colvin’s work was inspired by her Portfolio Class, where she focuses on creating graphics around the client’s brand and imagining what they want.
“Her design was savvy towards what we needed, it was on brand, 1000% PHSC,” said Pisors.
“I wanted this submission to be the final piece of my portfolio project, so I focused on the branding and colors. I feel like my work came out to be simple, but effectively simple. I didn’t have to follow strict guidelines, so I was able to put my own artistic twist on the submission while staying within PHSC’s branding,” Colvin said.
Winning this contest provided more than just the prize for Colvin “I like to boost myself up and give my self-confidence that I’d be the winner, but actually winning has made me feel like all my hard work is being recognized–it’s a major confidence boost,” she stated.
PHSC plans to host more contests for students in the future, to connect the gap between the art and corporate world, bringing the PHSC community closer together.
