What’s What New Port Richey
Yep, it’s the slow season.
Sort of.
We’ve found some worthy events for you to check out – a few celebrations, even. And some highlights.
The community production of Alan Menken and Howard Ashman’s horror, comedy, rock musical Little Shop of Horrors opens at Richey Suncoast and wraps up the 2024 – 2025 community theatre season until the fall production of The Wizard of Oz. Shows for Little Shop are June 1, 6, 7, 8, with ASL Interpreted performances at 7 p.m. on June 6 & 7.
There is more in the pipeline at NPR’s historic theatre. The place will be bustling as youngsters take to the stage for summer acting camps and culminating performances. Teens with a musical leaning will be demonstrating what they’ve learned at the annual Mullins Music Rock Week Band Camp Concert (June 13 – free, but you still need a ticket).
Also opening this month is the City of New Port Richey’s walking exhibit, “Tides of Time” – something that lends to a nice leisurely downtown stroll to take in the sculptures that have been fastened to some of the city’s historic buildings. Maybe stop in for an ice cream, sweet treat, brew, a meal, or to shop at one of the local businesses along the way.

Juneteenth, known as “America’s Second Independence Day,” with “Boots on the Ground | Celebrating the Journey,” will be held on June 18 at the Richey Suncoast Theatre. On June 21st, just a car ride away and on the east side of the county, is the 5th Annual East Pasco Juneteenth Community Celebration at Wesley Chapel District Park
Capping off the month is Fourth Friday in downtown on June 27th, a lead-up to the City of New Port Richey’s Red, White & Blue Hometown Extravaganza (June 28) complete with music, a patriotic costume contest, food eating contests, and fireworks in Sims Park.
Several local establishments continue to support live music, so be sure to check out who is playing where if that’s your thing in the “Live Local Music Gigs” listings below. Be aware that schedules are subject to change, and sometimes that happens after publication of this calendar. Word to the wise – check ahead.
And finally, for those looking to take part in the arts – painting, drawing, and dance classes, auditions, and other outlets – check out the new Do Your Thing |To Do List section here.
