What’s What New Port Richey

With the onslaught of tribute bands playing here, there, and everywhere, this is a not-too-subtle push to put local artists who are performing original music front and center so that, as a community and as business owners, we can support and foster the growth of some real talent in our area. Musicians who produce original music or their own unique arrangements to cover songs and would like to be featured are welcome to submit queries to mmiller@whatswhatnewportrichey.com.

Local singer-songwriter Julie Black & Her Band are the featured artists in the October 2026 issue of “This Band for Hire.”

Julie Black

The 2026 Palladium Creative Fellow & WUSF-featured Florida Jazz Artist, Julie Black is a Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter who presents original jazz, blues, roots & rock at live concerts throughout Florida. Her sound transcends time and genre, deeply connecting listeners to an authentic sound that is soulful and inspiring.

Based in New Port Richey, Julie Black & Her Band are known for shifting the atmosphere at festivals like The Clearwater Jazz Holiday, Chasco Fiesta, and Dunedin Wines the Blues, concert halls like Ruth Eckerd Hall & The Straz Center, listening rooms, botanical gardens, juke joints, art shows, roadhouses, private parties, corporate events, historical locations, and on radio & television.

Julie also performs as a trio, and as a duo with her partner in love & music, ambient composer and guitarist Dave Eichenberger —a NEA artist who’s been commissioned by the Dali Museum – and her full band is rounded out by Grammy-winning & Academy Award-winning bassist Dr. Graeme Currie; and former Marine Band member & lifelong drummer Frankie Timpanelli. Her first three albums were produced by music legend Bob “Tub” Langford (Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Joe South), who she worked closely with for nearly two decades; Julie Black has numerous original releases available on all digital platforms and is currently recording new music for an autumn release.
