Spectrum to Present $15,000 Check at Launch of Career Discovery Bootcamp as Part of “Beyond the Build Tour” in Florida
Holiday, Fla. (April 6, 2026) — AmSkills, an industry-aligned nonprofit dedicated to workforce development, will kick off its 48th Career Discovery Bootcamp on Monday, April 6, marking another step forward in preparing individuals for high-demand careers in manufacturing, infrastructure, and industrial maintenance.
As part of the kickoff, Spectrum will present AmSkills with a $15,000 Spectrum Digital Education grant to support the expansion of digital learning technologies across its training programs. The presentation is part of Spectrum’s “Beyond the Build Tour,” an initiative of Charter Communications’ Rural Construction Initiative in Florida.
Spectrum Digital Education supports nonprofits that use connectivity and technology to enhance workforce readiness, improve access to digital tools, and expand training opportunities for individuals in local communities.
AmSkills will use the grant to invest in computer equipment that powers its blended training model, integrating digital learning systems with hands-on, real-world application. This approach is embedded across multiple programs, including the Career Discovery Bootcamp, Skills Enhancement Training, Industrial Maintenance Technician Apprenticeships, and youth programs serving both high school and homeschool students.
“Our model is built on combining digital learning with hands-on training to mirror how work is actually performed in today’s industries,” said Commissioner Kathryn Starkey and AmSkills Co-Founder. “Participants don’t just learn concepts; they apply them immediately using real equipment, real scenarios, and industry-aligned technology. Spectrum’s investment strengthens our ability to prepare youth and adults for high-paying careers.”
AmSkills’ Career Discovery Bootcamp is an intensive, two-week program designed to introduce adults and career changers to in-demand career pathways. Participants engage in hands-on projects including soldering, precision measurement, and tool applications, while also completing digital learning modules on hand tools, safety, and foundational technical skills. This integrated approach connects digital instruction directly to real-world application, accelerating learning, strengthening retention, and preparing candidates to transition confidently into the workforce.
The program culminates in direct employer engagement, where participants interview with hiring companies from across the Tampa Bay region. By aligning training with real workforce demand, AmSkills creates a streamlined pathway from training to employment.
“At a time when industries are facing critical workforce shortages, it is essential to provide training that reflects the realities of modern work environments,” Starkey added. “Digital tools are now a core component of nearly every technical career, and when combined with hands-on experience, they create a powerful pathway to long-term success.”
Through continued partnerships and investments like Spectrum’s Digital Education grant, AmSkills is expanding access to high-quality training while helping employers build a skilled, job-ready workforce.

About Spectrum’s Rural Construction Initiative
As part of Charter Communications’ Rural Construction Initiative in Florida, Spectrum is nearing the completion of its broadband expansion projects in Pasco County, connecting more than 4,000 homes and businesses across five state and federal initiatives.
Pasco County is the second stop on Spectrum’s Beyond the Build Tour – an event series and initiative designed to not only celebrate broadband expansion, but also the communities that make that investment meaningful. While building the network is a critical first step, the true impact comes from helping people use and benefit from that connectivity every day.
Through this tour, Spectrum is partnering with local organizations that play a vital role in digital adoption and community support. As part of this commitment, Spectrum is making a $15,000 investment in AmSkills, supporting a program that empowers innovation and workforce development.
