Pasco County Corrections Facility Earns NCCHC Reaccreditation

~~Facility recognized for high quality health care services~~

Media Release | April 23, 2024
Pasco County Media Relations & Communications

LAND O’ LAKES, FL  —-  The Pasco County Corrections Facility is proud to announce it has again earned accreditation from the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) by demonstrating outstanding compliance with NCCHC’s nationally recognized standards of care for correctional health services in jails around the country.

Pasco County Corrections was first accredited in 2019 and has maintained its commitment to meeting the requirements described in NCCHC’s standards.  Reaccreditation recognizes the ongoing commitment by Pasco County Corrections to provide quality health services for the roughly 1,400 inmates in our facility.

“We understand the challenges our correctional professionals face – and greatly appreciate the collaboration between medical and correctional/security staff to ensure inmates receive appropriate care,” says Pasco County Chief Correctional Officer Stacey Jenkins.  “We also must highlight the hard work of our team to make this remarkable achievement possible.”

To maintain NCCHC accreditation, Pasco County Corrections underwent a rigorous professional assessment in February 2024 during which a team of experienced physicians and experts in correctional health care surveyed the facility for compliance in many important areas including:

  • Patient Care & Treatment
  • Health Promotion
  • Safety & Disease Prevention
  • Governance/Administration
  • Personnel/Training
  • Special Needs & Services
  • Medical Legal Issues

The facility houses men and women charged or sentenced on misdemeanor and felony crimes – as well as juveniles who have been adjudicated for treatment as adults.

For 45 years, NCCHC’s highly respected standards have provided guidance to help correctional health professionals and administrators improve the health of their incarcerated populations and the communities to which they return, increase efficiency of health services delivery, strengthen organizational effectiveness and reduce the risk of adverse legal judgments.

Pasco County Fire Rescue Providing Drug Disposal Bags

Media Release | March 25, 2024
Pasco County Media Relations & Communications

PASCO COUNTY, FL —- Pasco County Fire Rescue is always looking for new, innovative ways to help keep our community safe. One way we’re doing that is by providing drug disposal bags at every fire station in the county – free for pickup by members of our community thanks to a partnership with Alliance for Healthy Communities (AHC).

The Deterra Drug Deactivation System Pouches use a chemical to deactivate the drugs – preventing environmental contamination and rendering the medication unusable. Simply drop the medication into the bag, add water and the medication becomes deactivated.

Pasco County Fire Rescue will become the largest department in the country with this risk reduction tool, now available at all the county’s nearly 30 fire rescue stations. The bags are also available on all fire engines – and will soon be available in Fire Rescue staff vehicles.

“This is an easy, simple way for people to get rid of unused or unnecessary medication,” says
Pasco County Fire Rescue Chief Anthony Perez. “This keeps medication out of the wrong hands,
which helps keep our community safe. It’s a win-win for everyone.”

AHC Director Kellie Rodriguez and Coordinator Missy Coyle explain the partnership with Pasco County Fire and Rescue will help further AHC’s goal of enhancing medication safety in Pasco County.

“United in commitment, we champion medication safety through education, proper storage and responsible disposal – safeguarding our community’s health and preventing accidental overdose,”
says Coyle.

The bags are available at no cost to the community through AHC. For more information, please
email ASAP@empoweredcommunities.org or click HERE. AHC’s website also provides a
comprehensive list of community resources for prevention, treatment and recovery.

PASCO COUNTY, FL  —-  Pasco County works tirelessly to maintain more than 600 guardrails across the county – each one different from the other – knowing they help keep the traveling public safe.  Monitoring, repairing and upgrading guardrails is a major job, and Pasco’s Department of Public Works does it seamlessly with its first-of-its-kind Guardrail Assessment Program.

Our department is pleased to announce we recently won the Technical and Management Innovation Award from the American Public Works Association (APWA), Florida Chapter – West Coast Branch.   The team received the top honor at a ceremony March 13, 2024, because of its great and innovative work on the Guardrail Assessment Program.
