Some want a permanent change. It's not that easy.

It’s that wonderful time of year again when we’re thrown all out of sorts because of a century-old wartime effort meant to save fuel that was discontinued after World War I then reinstituted in WWII for one year before it was repealed in 1945. But some states kept right on doing it before congress passed legislation setting a federal standard time in 1966. That’s according to a website called History.com that has a bunch of cool facts to explore if you’re into that sort of thing.

The official start of DST is 2 a.m. March 13, but the word-to-the-wise and early-to-bed folks is to turn those clocks ahead before turning in for the night even as we grumble about the use of an archaic tradition that disrupts circadian rhythms in an extended hangover kind of way.

You know – that head-fog that sets in for a couple of weeks before you finally shake it off?

According to an NPR story published in November 2021, which takes a look at how Daylight Savings Time to the business world, millions of Americans and one-third of states want to ditch the twice-yearly time change.

In 2018 state lawmakers approved a bill that would allow Florida to remain on Daylight Savings time year-round.

So what’s the holdup?

Turns out congress has yet to approve that change for Florida and other states that have passed similar legislation.

Go figure.

Peace – M
