Whether you are looking for a day or night out for you or the kids, there’s plenty to take in locally in May, including a fair share of live music gigs that we list here because we are so grateful for the local venues that host and support live music in our community.

Some events of note –

The City of New Port Richey kicks off May with the annual Monarch Fest on May 3 at the New Port Richey Library/City Hall.

The Richey Community Orchestra wraps up their season with the annual Mother’s Day Concert on Sunday, May. 11. Richey Suncoast wraps up the 2024-2025 Community Theatre Season with a production of Little Shop of Horrors that extends into June.

The City of Port Richey celebrates its Centennial – on the heels of New Port Richey – with a few events, including a Johnny Cash Tribute and fireworks display on May 18.

Add to that concerts at the park and the beach. Comedy and Big Band at RST and more.

Richey Suncoast Theatre Writer’s Series, 7 p.m. Thursday, May 1 at the theatre | Free – Donations Accepted

Come out to the theatre for staged readings of three new works, once a month through June of 2025. The three new plays in April are: – Loose Lips by Pat Morris, Our Finest Work by Mary Poindexter McLaughlin, and A Little Ditty About Jacques and Diane by John Sallustio.

OTB | Sunset Beach Concert Series featuring Trop Rock Junkies, 7 p.m. Thursday, May 1 at Sunset Beach in Tarpon Springs | Free entry + free shuttle

Concerts are on the first Thursday of the month (February through November) and start at 7 pm. In the event of inclement weather and the concert is canceled before the start time, the concert will be held the following Thursday. Free shuttle provided from Tarpon Springs High on Gulf Blvd. to Sunset Beach.


Stand Up Comedy Night with Dean Napolitano, 7 p.m. Friday, May 2 at the Richey Suncoast Theatre in downtown NPR | $17 +

Comedian Dean Napolitano is a throwback to the great comedians of yesteryear, only with a modern twist that makes him one of the most prevalent comedians working today. He is a true storyteller with imaginative delivery that makes audiences feel like they have been through each experience. Born in Long Island, New York, Dean Napolitano first cut his teeth on the comedy scene working for clubs throughout Florida. Napolitano has been seen on the small screen in various shows on various networks.

New Port Richey Monarch Festival, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday, May 3, in the center courtyard at the New Port Richey Public Library in downtown NPR | Free

Featuring educational and fun activities for all ages, including presentations by the “Milkweed Man” and the Sierra Club, Kids Yoga by Flow Yoga Studios, face painting, arts and crafts by the Pasco Fine Arts Council, sidewalk chalk, and additional vendors with butterfly art. 


Authors Fest, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at the Starky Ranch Library in Odessa | Free

Enjoy captivating storytimes, meet talented local authors, and take part in engaging workshops. Whether you’re an avid reader or an aspiring writer, there’s something for everyone.

NPR Parks & Rec | Kids Night Out – May the Force Be With You, 6-9 p.m. Satruday, May 3 at the NPR Aquatic Center in New Port Richey | $10

Celebrate May the 4th with an evening filled with galactic crafts, movies, and fun! Don’t forget to wear your favorite Star Wars costume. Your mission awaits!

Come out to the recently opened Rosie’s Tavern to support the Richey Suncoast Theatre, where some proceeds from the bar sales will be donated to the theatre. “Little Shop of Horrors” is a horror comedy rock musical with music by Alan Menken and lyrics and a book by Howard Ashman. The story follows Seymour Krelborn, a meek and downtrodden floral assistant working in a rundown flower shop on Skid Row. One day, Seymour stumbles upon a peculiar and carnivorous plant, which he affectionately names Audrey II after his crush at the shop. Little does he know that this strange plant will develop a soulful R&B voice, a potty mouth, and an unquenchable thirst for human blood.
