Local libraries offer a plethora of programs, events and resources for all ages. Check out some highlights here and link to local branches for more events

This monthly calendar offers a blend of highlighted programs and a helpful way to link to the New Port Richey Public Library and Pasco County Library Branches located in West Pasco.

Link to individual library websites where you can explore programs offered regularly as well as some special events and see if anything suits your interests. Each library offers a full calendar of programs and activities as well as instructions for online registration for specific events.

  • New Port Richey Public Library’s ongoing programs that are held regularly include Rhymes to Readers Story Times, Kids Yoga, Quigong, Medicare Basics with SHINE, Writers Workshop, Language Classes, Movies, ESOL Classes, Walking Club, and The Tasty Tuesday Community Market which is held each Tuesday in the Library/City Hall courtyard. The Seatbelt Story, 6 p.m. Friday, May 3 at the New Port Richey Public Library, Main Street, New Port Richey.

  • The Seatbelt Story makes a long-awaited return with an exclusive performance at the New Port Richey Public Library! Formed in 2018 by Gulf High School students, The Seatbelt Story is a New Port Richey band through and through. After multiple lineup changes, they were forced to disband in June of 2023. Now they’re back and are ready to continue experimenting with a diverse range of genres, including alternative, punk, and more.

New Port Richey Monarch Festival, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, May 4 at the New Port Richey Public Library in downtown New Port Richey

New Port Richey can be a welcoming place indeed for these colorful pollinators. This event, presented by the NPR Environmental Committee, promises to show how to become better acquainted with monarch butterflies in an educational and fun way.


Tasty Tuesdays Community Market, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. each Tuesday at the New Port Richey Library in downtown New Port Richey

Tasty Tuesdays offers shoppers a way to shop local organic gardeners and vendors selling homemade sundries and the like. The event is held each Tuesday in the courtyard at the New Port Richey Public Library in downtown NPR.

Birdwatching with an Expert, 4-5 p.m. Tuesday, May 7 at the South Holiday Library, Mile Stretch Road in Holiday

‘May the Fourth Be With You’ , 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday, May 10 at the Regency Park Library in New Port Richey | All ages

Calling all space travelers from across the galaxy! Prepare yourself for a galactic adventure. Join us for an all-day celebration that includes crafts, trivia, movies, Legos, and much more! Suit up in your best costume for a chance to win an out-of-this-world prize. 



Movie Screening | “Ordinary Angels,” 11 a.m. Saturday, May 11 at the New Port Richey Library

A struggling hairdresser finds a renewed sense of purpose when she meets a widowed father working hard to care for his two daughters. “I Love My Mummy” with the MAPS Museum, 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday, May 11 at the Starkey Ranch Library, Theatre & Cultural Center in Odessa | $5

Journey through Ancient Egypt with Charles Zidar, MAPS Museum Director. Discover genuine Egyptian artifacts, make crafts and wrap your parent like a mummy!


Anclote Symphonic Winds Concert, 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11 at the Hudson Regional Library in Hudson | Free

The Anclote Symphonic Winds band is comprised of professional musicians, music teachers, students and local music enthusiasts. They play many different genres of wind ensemble music including famous marches, contemporary compositions as well as arrangements from local artists. This program is free and open to all but seating is limited.



Calling all filmmakers!!! Submit your entries to the New Port Richey Film Festival from May 13-July 26 with the award ceremony held on August 3

Categories are available for adults, teens and kids with over $1,200 in prizes handed ou to the winners.


Bad Art Contest, 2-3 p.m. Wednesday, May 15 at the Hudson Regional Library in Hudson

Come to the library to create the worst art you can make! That’s right – don’t worry about making something good, simply enjoy the creative process! Materials will be on hand to create your “disasterpiece,” then vote on “Worst in Show”.


Free Art Closet, 3-5 p.m. most Thursdays at the Centennial Park Library in Holiday

Looking to try out a new art or craft but are worried about the cost? Come by the Centennial Park Library to pick up some supplies to discover something you love! Supplies available include yarn, knitting needles, crochet hooks, brushes, paint, art books, and more! The closet will be open every second Saturday and third Thursday.


Museum+History Series presents “Rise of the Rays”, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. May 18 at the Starkey Ranch Library in Odessa

Come to the library theatre for a one-time showing of “Rise of the Rays”, which highlights the complicated and fascinating story behind the struggle to bring major league baseball to Tampa Bay. This is a program geared towards an older audience. Any interested patron ages 13 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.


Adult Guitar Lessons, 6-7 p.m. Thursday, May 23 at the Hudson Regional Library in Hudson

Chris Greco will be offering an introduction, demonstration, and application of the classical guitar. Come and go as you please– each lesson covers fundamentals including exploring individual notes on the fret board, basic chord shapes including barre chords and power chords, and reading guitar tabs.

Handouts of the syllabus and practice materials will be available to take home. It is recommended that you bring your own instrument if you have one available, though a limited number of guitars are available upon request. This session is for ages 18+. Registration required.


Kids Board Gaming, 3-4 p.m. Tuesday, May 21 at the Starkey Ranch Library in Odessa | Ages 7 +

Have fun playing board games such as Connect 4, Jenga, DogMan: The Hot Dog Card Game, Monopoly: Star Wars Edition, Monopoly: Meme Edition, Giant Spoons, Poetry for Neanderthals, Chess, Chutes and Ladders, The Game Called LIFE: Giant Edition, Twister, Sorry!, Sudoku, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cheese Touch Board Game, Uno, Guess Who?, Candyland and more! For kids and tweens, ages 7 and up.


Seniors in Service Bingo, 2-3 p.m. Wednesday, May 22 at the Regency Park Library in New Port Richey

Presented by Seniors in Service. This is an entertaining and informative way to learn how to help adults 55 and better find the volunteer opportunity of their dreams! We’ll share about our services, and you’ll play to win a variety of prizes and have fun! This program is for adults. Check out www.seniorsinservice.org to learn more!


Self-Care for Women: Creative Selfishness: Defining Your Boundaries, 6;30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 22 at the Starkey Ranch Library in Odessa

Based on Jennifer Louden’s “The Woman’s Comfort Book,” this class covers a different Self Care topic each month. Activities will include relaxation meditations, journaling/writing exercises, discussion, and occasional art experiences. Led by a mental health professional. Registration required.


English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

Pasco County Libraries Virtual & Outreach

  • ESOL: English for Speakers of Other Languages, 2- 4 p.m. Tuesdays via ZOOM. 30-minute appointments are offered Tuesday mornings, Tuesday afternoons, and Friday afternoons. These lessons are intended for students with some prior experience learning English. Lessons are taught in English by a certified teacher. A group class for beginning speakers is offered on Monday mornings on Zoom. Please call or email the South Holiday library to sign up and for more information. Registration required.
  • English Conversation Group, 10-11:30 a.m. Wednesdays and 2-3:30 p.m. Friday. Practice your English-speaking skills in a group on Zoom. This is a fun, casual atmosphere to practice and improve your English. Speakers of all levels are welcome. We have a new topic for every meeting. The class will be hosted by Claudia from the South Holiday Library. Please call or email the South Holiday Library for more information and to register. Registration required.


Master Gardener Events


Master Gardener Seminar – Basic Vegetable Gardening, 6-7 p.m. Monday, May 13 at the Regency Park Library in New Port Richey | Free

Growing vegetables in Florida is easier than you think! If you give them the growing conditions they prefer and do a little planning you can grow fresh, nutritious vegetables most of the year in Central Florida. Come learn from Master Gardener Sue Himmler about basic vegetable gardening.


Master Gardener Seminar – Good Bug, Bad Bug, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. Wednesday, May 15 at the Starkey Ranch Library in Odessa | Free

Learn to identify the good insects, encourage them in your landscape, and control the unwanted bad insects, using an integrated pest management approach.
